Loyola Sports Complex, Playing Fields, and Stadium

Loyola Recreation and Athletics Complex

Sports facilities and playing fields have always been an important part of the Loyola Campus. In 2003 began the first phase of a long-term project to develop both the outdoor and indoor Loyola Campus recreation and athletics facilities. Artificial surfaces were installed to create two new outdoor playing fields for football, soccer, rugby, and recreational activities. Permanent lighting was installed to permit evening practices and games, and temporary stands were erected to replace badly deteriorating stadium seating. Fundraising is underway to extend and renovate the ageing and inadequate 1967 Sports Complex, and to build a permanent stadium. The plans include:

  • a new triple gym,
  • major renovations to the Ed Meagher arena including new varsity locker rooms,
  • a 25m swimming pool,
  • an indoor running track,
  • a new weight room and conditioning room facilities,
  • an athletic therapy center,
  • academic and administrative support spaces,
  • recreational and varsity locker room space,
  • a removable dome for the south playing field,
  • stadium construction to include permanent seating for 5,000, with lockers and showers for field sports to be located under the stands.
